Do You Believe in Coincidence?

I am still not quite sure if I am a believer or not.  Sure, I have read every self-help, new age book available.  And, I have seen “The Secret” over a zillion times, I swear ;)  And, I have pondered the reality of “Bruce Almighty”.  However, why is it there are certain dates or names, or even REAL life signs that seem a little more than coincidence?  I really have to wonder if there is something I should be paying attention to.  Sure, in my harder days, I would have definitely believed it was something I should watch.  It was the “universe” trying to tell me something.  However, if that is the case, I am JUST NOT GETTING IT.

I will give you tons of examples.  On Sunday night we met to discuss a new show that we will be doing on FM1071.  This show is in addition to my regular duties of the afternoon shift.  It is a younger demo, more fun, etc.  I have 2 co-hosts on this new show.  So, we go to Jason’s house to discuss our creative visions.  He makes both Alexis and I a fancy schmance low fat dinner.  Anyway, turns out Alexis has a sister named Meredith.  Sure, not SOOO weird.  I know the chick on Grey’s has that name, too.  But, let me tell you…I don’t run across it very often.  Fine..coincidence.  Well, then Jason goes on to tell me his birthday is the same day as a life changing person from my lifetime.  Hmmm…coincidence again. 

Now, when I was in AZ, my best guy friend there had the same bday too.  Maybe a coincidence.  And, then this teacher guy that I dated for a little while who won “win a date with Meredith”, well his sis had that same bday too.  AND, I was friends with her.  Either A LOT of people are doing the nasty at the same exact time of the year.  Or, I have a lot of coincidence in my life. 

Fine, you don’t think there is anything weird there?  Well, lets kick in to one of my siblings birthday’s.  It is a great day because of that.  Although, my dog died on that day L  And, his bird died on that day, too.  (okay, sux to be him).  And, of course, I had one other MAJOR life issue happen on that day.  I will never forget(nothing dirty, pervs).  Coincidence.  Maybe?  Now, the weirdest thing is for over 2 years our KS95 morning show would go plan the show in the cafeteria.  You must understand that this cafeteria is a time warp.  It has the same wallpaper, chairs, EVERYTHING that it did back in the 60’ and 70’s.  Anyway, I would turn my chair so I could rest the back of my head against the wall and look at my co-workers down the table.  For 2 years I rest my head on this cheaply framed poster.  Of course, I was very aware what the poster said.  It is a State Fair poster from the SAME DATE.  In fact, it is the same year my brother was born , too.  Coincidence?  Maybe.

Still don’t believe?  Well, how about some examples that aren’t about me.  Well, let’s go with the date of April 20^th.  This would be a very important news day.  It is Adolf Hitler’s birthday.  It is the anniversary of Columbine.  And, of course(yes…let’s DO make this about me) it is an anniversary date that didn’t work out for the best.  Just click on this link to see what this date has brought the world…plane crashes, more shootings, etc.  It is just not a good day.  Sorry if this is your birthday, I really do think you are a good person. 

Well, coincidence or not.  I assume there are only 365 days in the year.  So, maybe it is coincidence.  However, I didn’t even really delve into the subject.  I have WAYYY more stories; such as names that keep surfacing in my life, scripts, actual signs saying weird things that COULD possibly mean something.

I swear I am not a freak.  I just have had A TON of weird eerie coincidences lately.  I really have to look back and at least be aware.  I know you have had that feeling.  It is the same feeling I had on Sunday eating dinner with my new radio team.  Alexis talks about her sister with the same name.  Fine.  Then, Jason was telling a story about his 30^th birthday.  I turn to him and ask, “when is your birthday”.  He answers.  I just turn to both of them and say, “of course it is.”
